An independent Nigerian publishing house is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO).The COO will report to the Publisher/CEO and will be responsible for the effective and profitable management of the business. He or she will be responsible for up to 30 staff in editorial and design, sales and marketing, HR, administrative and accounting departments. Specific duties will include:
Strategy and business leadership:
� With Publisher, devising and driving the attainment of the overall vision and goals of the business
� With department managers, devising and managing the implementation of key business strategies, particularly sales and marketing
� Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities in accordance with strategy and policies
� Devising and managing the implementation of all operational policies and processes
Corporate Communications:
� Communicating with all business stakeholders as necessary, including government, foreign and local publishers, key customers, etc.
� Representing the company to the media and general public
General management:
� Managing all aspects of the daily operations of the company including approving all procurements, accounts payable and credit sales
� Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements
� Ensuring the recruitment and retention of suitable staff across all departments
Required skills and competencies include:
� Strong business administration and organisational skills
� Strong decision-making and people-management skills
� Highly analytical and numerate
� Strong communication (writing, speaking and presenting) skills
� Advanced computer literacy
Minimum experience and qualifications:
� Undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting, marketing or equivalent field
� At least 4 years experience in general business administration and general management
� Experience in publishing, book-selling and a passion for books strongly preferred
